Study in Singapore

Secondary Education

Secondary education in Singapore typically spans four to five years, beginning at age 13. Students are placed into different streams—Express, Academic (Normal), or Technical (Normal)—based on their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results. Throughout this period, they study a comprehensive range of subjects including English, Mother Tongue languages, mathematics, sciences, and humanities.

At the end of secondary education, students take a national examination—the Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level or N-Level—depending on their stream. These results are crucial in determining their next educational steps. Students may progress to junior colleges for pre-university education, enroll in polytechnics for career-oriented diploma courses, or enter institutes of technical education for vocational training.

Higher Education

Singapore's higher education system is globally recognized for its excellence and includes world-class universities, polytechnics, and specialized institutions. The nation is home to prestigious universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), which consistently rank among the world's best.

University education emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, with a strong focus on research, innovation, and global perspectives. Bachelor's degrees typically require three to four years of study, followed by one to two years for Master's degrees. Singaporean institutions are particularly noted for their rigorous academic standards, strong industry connections, and multicultural learning environment that prepares students for global careers.
